The Technology Education Imperative
It is imperative that we educate our young people about technology. This is learning beyond the technicalities of mechanisms or the physical properties of materials, beyond the ways in which products can be manufactured and beyond simplistic evaluation of aesthetics. It is about developing creative, questioning and caring individuals who appreciate the true awe and wonder of what technological activity can achieve but who also appreciate the necessary balance between our made world and the natural world.
There is, I believe, nothing more important in our technological age than the education of our young people about technology in all of its forms. A lack of genuine technology education will have profound effects on the ways in which we promote, use and evaluate the products of technology. Neglect this and we will regret it for generations to come.
